A brief interlude from the non-negativity
Question: how many of the criteria below did I here violate? Let a white boy know.
1. They can't be depressing--no dark themes. "Contemplative" is okay. "Haunted" is not.
2. They can't be gloomy.
3. They can't be foreboding.
4. They can't be creepy.
5. They can't be revolting.
6. They can't be ugly, though they need not be pretty.
10. No voo-doo dolls, creepy or otherwise. (Y'all will see a creepy doll in 2010. So you got that to look forward to.)

Negative?
Dude, spines are cool. Bodies are cool. It's cool that after things die their bodies are still around looking cool.
Is this one not death also? I think that violates quite a few tenets.
S-S: I suppose. My youngest daughter told me this evening she doesn't want to die, ever. I should have told her this. Yes, but see, your spine will last for a good long time after your dead, and if you die in pond and are quickly covered in mud your spone may in fact fossilize!! So you got that going for you.
Justcurious: mostly, I just think it's ugly. I really do. Which is not to say it's altogether without merit, but it is in fact ugly.
Tell your child that if she's really lucky, she'll get tossed into a bog upon death, and then centuries later she will still have fingernails!
Failure. Utter Failure.
S-S: here's what's funny. My Nora's comments were depressing, and your awful horrible incredibly child-unfriendly comments here just now somehow cheered me up. Can't explain it.
Squish: Oh, I know, I know.
3, 4, 6. Most likely 7-9 also but you left them off this post.
I'm glad you didn't say 1-10, because it's not that bad. Mostly just u-g-l-y.
