After Hours in Times Square

Here I try to capture the simultaneous harsh and dreamy feel that comes from staying out way too late. I remember as a child coming home from trips with my parents late late at night. Too tired to stay awake. Too close to home to try to sleep. I'd just patiently drift through soothing darkness until my wonderings and reverie would be punctuated by bright lights flooding the car. Neon signs. Vehicle lights. Street lamps.

Dreamy and harsh, both.

Of course here the photo suggests that more than fatigue alone is at work here in contributing to that dreamy hazy swimming feel.

Love the photo, big cat.

Yes, more is at work here than simply the fatigue.

I take this photo to represent how one feels after a night of drinks in the city. The day brought strolling through manhattan with friends and seeing sites only previously seen in pictures. the night brought too many drinks at the bar.

the assault comes from the lonely walk back to the train station. you've left your friends, the overwhelming sense of alcohol-induced happiness is wearing off quickly, that girl from nyu only flirted with you for a free drink, and now fatigue has taken over. those neon lights in time sqaure that once served as sign posts for a fun day in the city, now taunt you as you stumble to the train station.

harsh but dreamy.

(insert sad song here)

no need to insert sad song. that was a nice sad song you laid out there for us. nicely done.

you do note (and depict) a kind of loneliness in the picture i hadn't quite put words to. nicely done.
