Summer Cloud

We recently took a family trip to Washington D.C. We commented on how the trip was a trip of lovely and dramatic clouds. We saw this one in Kentucky rapidly balloon before our eyes. I took this photo through the windshield of my car while driving 70 mph. The photo doesn't do its enormity justice. It took miles and miles to drive past this cell.

There was a bizarrely long stretch of time that covered perhaps a hundred miles in which we could see dark and stormy weather to both our left and right. It was as though we were driving down the middle of a canyon of foul weather. The lovely cloud quickly merged with a storm system that later turned quite ugly. We outraced the severe weather and got to our hotel just in time.
