Once I told my sister that her hair--which bore a striking resemblance to this photo--looked like Medusa's. I don't think she ever quite forgave me.

funny.

did you get a picture? it's always fun to look back at photos from many years ago (of course you have far fewer years than me to look back at) and see the choices in clothes and hair that one made that seemed so normal and fashionable at the time. and yet it's always hard to feel (though not to believe) that our choices today will have the same effect in years to come.

i guess that had nothing to do with your comment. sorry. it's still early morning and i'm just waking up.

It's so true, though. I am quite sure that, while I like the shirt I'm wearing now, it would be positively embarassing if I wore it, say, ten years from now. It really is almost ugly, but it's stylish, and that seems to cover a multitude of sins.

here's a real question, maybe more appropriate for an email than here. dunno. but how can you tell whether something is fashionable? what does one look for? i do not have an eye for it. and even were i to know and had tons of money to spend, i doubt i'd change my wardrobe too much.

I...I don't know.

Blair would know. This is what I do: pay attention to what is for sale, and what others are wearing, and the way the general trend seems to be going. In the past few years, women's shirts have gotten longer (ie, they go lower on the hip) and shorts have also gotten longer, but skirts are getting a bit shorter. And we seem to be getting a taste of embellishment reminiscent of the 70s...also some 80s (shudder)...

So I might use these as a basis for deciding whether any given outfit is worth purchasing (well, that, and how it looks on), but HOW do I know what is fashionable at this moment? I haven't the faintest idea. I guess I just watch what other people wear and try to fit in.

That sounds terrible, doesn't it? Completely unoriginal.

Blair is very good at being stylish and classy and standing out just enough (in my opinion, anyway.) She would have much better answers to these questions! :)
