statue

i feel like i've posted this before, but i don't want to go through my blog to find out.

think of this photo as an image taken from a movie with a music score. what (kind of) music does this image call for?

Well, it sure ain't gonna be cheerful. Not "Whistle Why You Work" or "Don't Worry Be Happy". How about "Come Sweet Death (as long as that angel is not the one who comes to collect my soul)". The techno version.

that might work, actually, but the techno beat would have to be slower than nomral. but otherwise....

You haven't posted this before.

I agree with Timekeeper. This looks like souless cupid. Maybe some kind of "sucking the soul out of me" song? Or perhaps the theme from the Jason movies? I'm assuming he has a theme...

and what is the jason theme? i suspect it has more shrieking violins that what i "hear" in this photo.

I guess I was thinking more slow music with a hint of some mischief to come. Music that would make you think "Is this statue good or bad?"

so i take it you think of it is a bad souless statue?

you may be right.

it would definitely be something like bach's mass in b minor or mozart's requiem. powerful, haunting choral music that plays while this seemingly innocent angel and other cathedral snapshots are shown. As the music speeds up, the shots similarly speed up, becoming more shadowed, disjointed, chaotic. This would be background to some da vinci code type scene playing out with much angst but no audio.

just a thought.

It is all in the eyes.

But then, you would know that.

justcurious--well, what's not to like about that thought. you're always more than welcome to make bach's mass in b minor (or st. matthew passion, so far as that goes) or mozart's requiem a background soundtrack to any of my pictures. and i don't care how violently these composers would be turning in their graves. hey, if their music works for toothpaste advertisements, surely they've tired of spinning in their graves long ago.

Since you are the one who suggested Mozart's requiem, let me be so bold to offer my two cents. this little statue is clearly a minor-key statue. and a little haunting. and maybe even menacing. so were it the requiem it would have to be a quiet portion, so: how 'bout the opening bars of "Introitus"; or the ending of "confutatis"; or the opening of "lacrimosa"?

oh, this is too much fun. i like bach as a choice. so now that i've lost all semblance of modesty, let me suggest another bach piece: the opening piece of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Or is that too refined and delicate? then how about Bach Choral "Nun Komm' der Heiden Heiland"?

and have you heard britten's four sea interludes? maybe the haunting opening strains of the passacaglia. grieg's aase's dance? i'm out of control now. see what you've done?! Satie's Gnossienne nos. 2-4?

must stop. the shame. the shame.

In my opinion, it appears as though this cherub is sorry for something; and even though he is, he can't resist but to look on and watch someone's painful misfortune... i almost actually get a judas vibe from this angel...
i like the idea of a choir, but strings or an organ would work as well, it needs to be soft yet powerful- the opening of lacrimosa would be really great... i also like Adagio in G minor by Albinoni, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz4dpbk8YBs&feature=related
the doors also have a version of it if you wanted something more modern, orrr, i would even go so far as to say Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell which is the theme for "Requiem for a Dream" would work, actually, I think that's my favorite- yes.

btw, a little birdie told me that you enjoy german techno, is this true?

it is just a beautiful work

india!!! great to see you here. have you spoken up before? if not, glad to have you!

I love the albinoni piece (it's the only one of his i know; probably it's the only piece of his that anyone knows!), and i think the stripped-down early part of the piece might work. i also adore the Clint Mansell piece you mention--though frankly that might go better with some of my other photos. I listen to that soundtrack (or at least four pieces of it) more often than i should admit. "Meltdown" is just viscerally disturbing.

I checked out the second youtube link you provided, and it really is quite beautiful. thanks for the link.

yngwie malmsteen uses the albinoni theme in "icarus dream suite," but i don't know the doors' version. what's it called? i think that the doors song that would best fit this picture (at least based on "feel") is "crystal ship." it has a nice soft heartbeat rhythm and some weird minor-chord progressions that i like a lot.
