(....to") self-eyeball

Eyeballs are the window to........to........to.........to just everything! (Except for cars and buildings, in which cases windows, and not eyeballs, are the windows.) Eye contact is really really hard to maintain because, well, who wants to disclose one's soul to....anyone?! Including to oneself, in the return gaze?

Answer: no one.

Or, at least, no one should. And by "no one," I mean "not me."

Eyeballs are the miracle of the universe.

Well, eyeballs and the brain.

And Bach's music.

And aspirin.

And Lincoln's prose.

And Herbert Von Karajan's hair.

And game six of the 1985 World Series!

See? No one knows what to say. We're all too busy trying to break out of the eye-induced trance. (Think Spider Man comics...
"Must...get...myself...free, if I'm too save the world from Dr. Eyeball." Maniacal laughter and hand wringing in the background.)

Hello? (phh, phh, knock, knock) Is this thing on?

To all: The blue eyeballness of it all is apparently too much for everyone to take. Or understand. Or accept. Everyone, that is, except for those who belong to the top secret "Blue Eyeball Group."

Membership: One.

Thus far.

But it is seeking applicants from qualified candidates.

And anyway, do you ever find yourself distracted by trying to figure out which eye to look at while you're talking to someone, or by trying to remember how to look at both eyes at once, and then you realize you haven't even been listening?

P.S. I prefer it when you do little else than wait for and reply to posts. Try not to be sidetracked by life, okay?

it's always reassuring to know that the things that gives one cause to suspect that one is slipping into madness are, in fact, shared by at least one (presumably) sane person.

yes, i do that with my eyes. when i am doing that, i wonder whether the other person can tell what i'm doing, and whether they'd be offended by my questions and efforts.

more generally, i find my inner thoughts sometimes shouting down the spoken words of the the other person. now that surely IS common.

right?

I just read your blog to Joe and he said (and I quote) "His blog is vinegar to the teeth". I think he's just a little touchy about game 6. just a little tiny bit. It might be from the fact that he watched game 6 with my dad and couldn't adequately vent his feelings at the time.
