well, you may be right. real question is whether it's really a hay bailer. i just took a guess. surely your d.h. knows.
I believe it's a hay rake--they're such oddly-shaped implements, aren't they?

hay rake. okay, i'll try to remember that.
here's an observation. growing up on the farm gives one an important education missing from city dwellers and surbanites. one learns more carefully about flora (or is it fauna?), the soil, weather patterns, machinery, as well as (as often as not) good cooking. plus one learns about the market and business.
what's interesting is i can't think of any comparable advantage with respect to education for growing up in suburbia.
maybe skateboarding. dunno.
